about

A call with a series of responses to and from unreachable celestial bodies fashioned a path of sculpted airs.

Initially inspired from NASA’s 2017 discovery of 7 possibly habitable Earth-size planets, the composing of "A Suite for Ten Habitable Planets" began that year and reached its completion in May 2019. Playing with a broken radio receiver and shoebox tape recorder sparked the fantastical desire to transform into a radio wave and escape from a current physical state, to travel to distant, unfamiliar spaces.

This series of ten dissociative, sculptural airs assigns symphonic characteristics to various experimental microphone recordings, fractured liturgies, the human voice, analog synthesizer, the noise spectrum (blue, white, pink, brown) and percussive bursts from a broken radio receiver. The original layers of recorded material were patiently reformed and glued together through processes of recording and re-recording with tape, lathe cut vinyl and digital manipulations (three distinctly different sonic worlds) which slowly transformed them into subtly rhythmic, densely colorful, and textural habitats.
